Our new coach started its build on 8/14 in the Weld Shop. This is an area closed to visitors due the hazards associated with cutting and welding steel. We hoped it was in process we took the plant tour on Wednesday 8/15. We looked for our chassis during the tour but we didn't see it. We did talk to one of the workers at the first station and she assured us that we were the next one scheduled. Since the next start time was 12:27pm, lunch and a dog walk seemed appropriate.
On our way back from lunch, we ran into Bob Tiffin which made us miss the all important "chassis driven into the assembly area" picture that I wanted to take. It was nice to meet Bob, however.
The Weld Shop constructs the basic framework of what becomes the basement of the coach. They also install a number of important subsystems including the hydraulics (slides and levelers), the chassis A/C system, coach wiring harness, battery systems, and basic plumbing.
